In October, the online auction of the Star Pavilion will bring collectors a special session of "The Unique Storkes: Contemporary Originals", focusing on the original sketches of domestic and overseas contemporary artists, including David Shrigley, Edgar Plans, Lei Shuang, Ryoko Kato, Sumisha, and Annapia. Annapia ANTONINI, Huang Minjun, Yoshida Yuka... etc., presenting the most authentic and personal traces of creation in the context of contemporary art, and feeling how the artist's unique and profound brushstrokes and creative energy are carried in small and medium-sized paintings, whether it is the expression of improvised inspiration or the condensed expression after deep thought, allowing the viewer to get close to the creator's state of mind and artistic language.
Original art works are unique in the world, not only as an excellent opportunity to easily enter the collection, but also as an opportunity for direct dialogue with the diverse vocabulary of contemporary art.
David Shrigley
British contemporary artist David Shrigley is known for his unique line drawings, which often incorporate elements of dark humor, surrealism, and wit. His work spanned a wide range of mediums, including drawing, sculpture, photography, animation, and installation, and rose to fame in the 1990s. His artistic style showcases a rugged, almost childlike aesthetic that complements the absurd and thought-provoking themes he explores. Shregley's contributions to the art world were nominated for a Turner Prize in 2013, further solidifying his status as an influential figure in the contemporary art world. Shreigri's works often explore death, anxiety, and society through humorous lenses, inviting viewers to reflect on these themes in an accessible yet profound way, becoming a hallmark of his artistic practice.
Huang Minjun
Taiwanese contemporary artist Huang Minjun has attracted widespread attention in Taiwan's contemporary art scene with his "Light and Color Series" works. He is adept at using delicate brushstrokes and color layers to capture the moments when light and shadow flow through space, creating a poetic and contemplative visual atmosphere. Based on his observation of light, Huang Minjun proposed the "Light and Color in One" series of creations, using magenta, yellow, and bright green as the "three primary colors of light and color", which were verified through experiments and theories. This concept not only shortens the distance between painting and reality, but also brings a sense of realism and three-dimensionality to the picture that is difficult to achieve in traditional painting.
Through the interweaving of light and color, the work not only presents visual beauty but also guides the viewer to feel the passage of time and the tranquility of the soul. Through abstract and sensual paintings, Huang Minjun explores the relationship between nature and perception, making light not only a visual element but also a medium of emotion and spirituality.
Yoshida has flowers
Emerging Japanese artist Yuka Yoshida's works are mostly set against the backdrop of cities where contrasting elements coexist, depicting living space and human nature, and using a large number of peach shades to create a unique visual language. In the "Personal Series" in this collection, the rich symbols in the images are reminiscent of social media icons, emojis, or stamps, echoing the characters depicted in bright colors in the work, presenting a concrete picture of contemporary society full of digital information. Through this series, Yuka Yoshida hopes to explore human nature and a sense of life, and use social media interpersonal connections as the starting point for contemporary phenomena, reflecting each independent and unique "individual" living in different backgrounds.
Edgar Pleens
Spanish contemporary artist Edgar Plans is an internationally renowned contemporary artist whose works blend abstract and figurative elements to explore the multiple layers of emotion, memory, and human relationships. Poulence depicts the "little heroes" he creates through bright colors, as the image embodiment of everyday heroes. Inspired by the delicate moments of unsung heroes in modern life, the artist presents a humorous and symbolic way of celebrating courage, support, and care, making viewers feel warm and resonant while appreciating the work.
The auction lot is part of the "You Are My Hero!" series, in which the artist personally adds hand-painted details to each of the original identical "little hero" prints, giving them their own unique story and life, and also giving the prints a unique quality. The core idea of this series is to convey that "everyone is a hero in their own life." This reminds us that even if the appearance is ordinary, each individual contains unique and precious value.
